Cape May Stage is located at the Robert Shackleton Playhouse on the corner of Bank and Lafayette Streets in the heart of the Historic district in beautiful Cape May, New Jersey. We’re housed in a classic Renaissance Revival (c. 1853) building which formerly served as the Presbyterian Church and the City’s Welcome Center. Click here for map.

What accessibility services does CMS offer its patrons?
Cape May Stage is dedicated to providing equal access to all individuals with disabilities.
The theater provides barrier-free access for patrons using wheelchairs or walkers. On-grade entrances, railings, and wide doorways allow people easy access.
Patrons wishing to transfer from a wheelchair to a seat can request to have their wheelchair stored during the performance. Please inform the staff if you will need assistance during intermission. A staff member will return your wheelchair to you at the end of the performance.
An accessible restroom is also available.
Should you require any accommodation that will help make your visit more comfortable, please contact the Box Office at least a week in advance so that we can make the proper arrangements. When you arrive at the theatre, please notify the House Manager and he/she will be happy to assist you. Please note: mezzanine seating is not accessible for patrons using wheelchairs, walkers, or those with limited mobility.
ASL sign-interpreted performances are often scheduled for multiple main stage productions.

What is your work like?
Cape May Stage is a professional Equity theatre company, featuring traditional, contemporary and new works in an intimate setting. Since 1987, actors, directors, and playwrights from around the country have set the standard for excellence by providing world-class theatre in a unique and historic venue.
How big is your theater?
Cape May Stage is an intimate theater with an audience capacity of approximately 134 persons. We are wheelchair accessible and have listening devices available for the hearing impaired.
How can I audition?
Cape May Stage holds annual Equity auditions in New York and Philadelphia. Notices are posted in Backstage and on our website. Submissions are also accepted.
Is there parking available at your theatre?
Cape May Stage has a very small lot with only 6 metered spaces including a designated handicapped parking space. All other parking is street parking.
- There is a municipal metered parking lot only a half block south of the playhouse next to Collier’s Liquor store.
- Swain’s Ace Hardware store, located on Jackson Street behind the playhouse has a pre-paid parking lot during the height of the season for $4.00 per vehicle.
- Free parking & free trolley service is available on 921 Lafayette Street at the Cape May Elementary School parking lot during the summer months. The trolley runs every 20 minutes until 11:00PM. The drop off/pick up location of the trolley is at the rotary bandstand across from the playhouse. The phone number to call the trolley driver is (609) 846-4057 to determine his location and timing of your pick up.
